How do I open a Goodbody Online account?
You can open an online account by completing the 3 paperless steps below:

  • Complete your application online
  • Upload your ID and proofs of address
  • Sign your agreement electronically

Your application will be reviewed by our Account Opening Team and we will have your account setup within 3 working days provided your documentation is correct. If you have any Account Opening queries, please contact +353 1 641 6044.

Is there a minimum amount required to open a Goodbody Online Account?
Yes, Goodbody Online has a minimum initial investment amount of €5,000. This can be made up of cash, stock, or a combination of both.
You can fund and activate your account upon receipt of your Goodbody Account Information by post.
Please be aware it can take up to 2 days following receipt of your funds into our Bank account before you see the funds credited to your Goodbody account.

How much does it cost to have a Goodbody Online account?
Goodbody charge a maintenance fee of €100 plus 23% VAT. This fee is charged annually.

What are the transaction charges for a Goodbody Online account?
Goodbody charge a commission on all buy or sell trades:

  • €25 per trade minimum commission.
  • 1% commission up to €25,000.
  • 0.50% commission on the balance of the trade.

Goodbody's trading hours are 8am to 5.30pm. If you place your order outside of these hours, your order will be filled once trading hours and market hours re-open the next working day.

Can I add my share certificates to my Goodbody Online Account?
Yes, once your Online Account is open, you can forward your share certificates to Goodbody along with a signed transfer form and lodge them to your Online Account.

I have shares held with another broker, can I transfer them to my Goodbody Online Account?
Yes, once your Online Account is open, we can accept stock in from your current broker and lodge to your Online Account.

This is an application for an online Execution-Only service for investors who are comfortable making their own investment decisions, without financial advice. This is an online application process with no physical paperwork.

Criteria to open an individual account Account Criteria

  • You must be over 18 years of age.
  • You must be a resident of the Republic of Ireland.
  • You must be the person in whose name the account will be opened. The contact details provided must belong to you.
  • The minimum value of your initial investment must be €5,000.


  • You need to have an Irish or UK bank account.

What information is needed to open your account Required Information

Proof of identity

You will need to provide one proof of photo identity (valid Passport, valid Irish Passport Card, valid Irish Driver's Licence). We can only accept the plastic version of the Irish Driver 's Licence. We can only accept a picture image of your passport or driving license and not a scanned copy of the document

You will also need to provide a selfie.

Funding your account

Please ensure that the bank account details you provided are for the account you will use to transfer funds to and from your Goodbody account.

Your funds must come from a Current Account in your sole name. Funds cannot come from an account that your share with somebody else.

Proof of address

You will need to provide two proof of address documents. One proof of address must be a statement for the bank account details provided on your application form. This must be a Current Account. The other proof of address can be a statement from a different bank / credit union or a utility bill.

Funding your account

Please ensure that the bank account details you provided are for the account you will use to transfer funds to and from your Goodbody account.

Your funds must come from a Current Account in your sole name. Funds cannot come from an account that your share with somebody else.

All information submitted is reviewed by our Account Opening team.

Criteria to open a joint account Account Criteria

  • Both of you must be over 18 years of age.
  • Both of you must be residents of the Republic of Ireland.
  • Both of you must be the persons in whose name the account will be opened. The contact details provided must
    belong to both of you.
  • The minimum value of your initial investment must be €5,000.

  • You need to have an Irish or UK bank account.

What information is needed to open your account Required Information

Client Assets Key Information Document

This document provides you with key information in relation to how we hold assets on your behalf. The information is required by law, pursuant to the Client Asset Regulations 2023 for Investment Firms (the "Regulations") to help you understand how and where your assets may be held and the resulting risks arising from that along with the procedures in place in order to mitigate those risks. You are advised to read this document so that you are aware of how your assets may be held, the risks resulting from that and whether and when the protections available under the Regulations will apply or not to your assets that are held under our control.

  • You will need to log in with the pin you received by text.
  • You will need to follow the instructions to provide one photo ID and two proofs of address.
  • Also, you will need to submit your W-9 form, as you have registered on the form as a citizen of the United States of America.

5.

Goodbody Review

Your application will be reviewed by our Account Opening Team. Your application should be processed within the next five business days. If there are any issues with your application our Account Opening Team will contact you directly by email so please keep an eye on your email.

6.

Activate your Account

  • Once everything has been successfully verified by the Account Opening team you will receive a letter with information on how to access your account online
  • We send this letter to validate the address you have provided
  • You will need to activate your online access once you receive this letter.
